Nostalgia toy thread - Nerf vs. Super Soakers

I rarely get nostalgic about anything in my childhood. It was fairly typical, but a little on the lonely side since I switched schools a lot. It left a lot of deep pychological scars and there was that one horrible momement when I learned my dad wasn't rea-BUT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT

SPACE LEGOS

6989-1.jpg6923-1.jpg

Dammit I thought the amount of fun associated with these things was something that only worked when I was a child but damn if I don't want to get my M-Tron Mega Core Magnetizer back. That thing had magnets, little yellow men, green plastic neon things and they even showed you how to make a little M-tron robot.

My older brother got his own set, the fearsome Blacktron Legos.

6981-1.jpg[/url]6988-1.jpg

These guys were supposed to be the bad guys but being black children they naturally became the protagonists in our imaginary war waged against them by the zealotic SPACE POLICE.

6897-1.jpg6895-1.jpg

These guys were actually a combination of that one lego set and a set of the knock-off Megabloks, and usually controlled by our next door neihbour Bryce, who was chubby and smelled a bit like pee. Whenever we'd play his forces would lose in the end (his Mega Blok bases inevitably ended up being thrown off the table, killing all of his men until the next time we played), and he'd cry and swear he'd never play with us again.

So tell me of your long lost childhood toys, your pogs, your troll dolls, your GI Joes and your Tyco RC cars. Show me your Pokemons and your Teddy Ruxpins. And remember it's Nerf or Nothin'.

Back when I was a kid, all we had were things whittled from wood blocks by our pas.

I used to have all the cool ghostbusters toys.

The proton pack, the trap, everything.

When we finally got a Nintendo, we actually managed to beat the Ghostbusters videogame.

    Without cheating.

Yes. That was the old Space line. There were yellow dudes too, I tihnk.

I loved Space Lego. It was pretty much the only toy I had while growing up, so that might have something to do with it.

I still have the Sears Tower that I made out of legos when I was 4 or 5 years old with rows of red blue and yellow over and over all the way up.

In other words, this thread wins because legos are basically awesome in every way.

Yeah I know, previous to that we were not rich enough to get "official" lego sets. It was cheap knock-offs and child abuse for christmas.

I did get a pretty cool set of Duplo blocks from my godmother though, it had a cowboy with a mustache in it, and he was our favorite piece. I believe his name was "Cowboy Mustache", and we made him fight this dude in a blue shirt who was always trying to steal his hat.

The most fun I ever had with lego?

We used to each get a pile of bricks, and a couple sets of wheels. We had 20 minutes or so to make the sturdiest rolling stock we could. Then we could run them at each other down a narrow track. Over and over again.

Whoever's stayed rolling the longest, won.

OH MAN - those were the little plastic miniature action figures with the heat-senstive logos, right? You rubbed the little sticker with your thumb and it changed colour, something like that?

We had a camel one, he was like the chief bad guy against our lego men.

    guys okay

you know the little gi joes

the smaller, hard plastic ones that came out in the 80's

not the original barbie-sized doll ones

did you know that if you just remove the single screw in their back, they totally fall apart and you can re-assemble them any way you like

man we had a lot of good fun creating custom gi joes
